Training PostGIS: spatial database
PostGIS is a module for PostgreSQL, allowing to add spatial management, in terms of storing, handling and querying.
PostGIS is a solid, powerful and well-tested solution used in many GIS projects.
PostGIS implements the SFS norm (Simple Feature for SQL) 1.1 of the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium), while proposing numerous additional features as well.

Basic spatial queries
- Buffer calculation, centroid, area, distance …
- Topological intersection and inclusion
Day 3
Advanced spatial queries
- Reprojection on-the-fly
- Using joins or sub-queries
- Linear interpolation (road or hydrology data)
Creation and manipulation of geometries on-the-fly
Coupling with QGIS to visualize query results
Introduction to PostGIS 2.0 (option)
