GeoServer makes it possible to rapidly set up services for the provision of GIS data. It manages many output formats for data (PNG, SVG, KML, JPEG, PDF, GeoJSON …). In addition, it is easy for an informed user to add their own customized output module for vector data.

GeoServer is an Open Source Map Engine developed within a JAVA environment and based on the GeoTools library. It implements many OGC Web Services specifications (WMS, WFS-T, WCS, SLD …) and is also for the OGC a reference application for the support of the WFS standard.
