OCA Sponsor and Open Source Contributor

Since the foundation of Camptocamp, we have been actively involved in many important Open Source communities. Many of our employees are leading committee members and/or active members in various Open Source communities.

We generally share the developments that result from our projects with the Open Source Community. For us it is really important to integrate Open Source based components and to ensure that our clients benefit from sustainable and individualized solutions, based on the latest technologies.

Back in 2006, when we started working with Odoo (called TinyERP at this time), there was no organized community. Together with four other Odoo Integrators (Therp, Savoir-faire Linux, Vauxoo, Akretion), we decided to found the Odoo Community Association - OCA - in 2013. We have been an active member and committer ever since.

In order to strengthen our support for this organization that strongly reflects our values, we decided to become an official OCA sponsor (silver) while continuing to support it by contributing code, reviews and time!

We do all this investment to provide a sustainable Odoo solution to our customers and to reduce the maintenance costs whenever possible by delivering the highest quality from the start.

The contributions of Camptocamp in the Odoo Community ecosystem are numerous. We contributed the first implementation of a number of important modules, including core framework enhancements, such as the queue job module and the connector framework, localization specific contributions such as the QR IBAN Scan module for the Swiss localization, and more recently a significant amount of work related to the implementation of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) on top of Odoo, presented at the Odoo Experience 2020 as well as during the OCA days 2020.

Camptocamp is also a team player, contributing to the migrations, enhancements and maintenance of other modules in the OCA ecosystem, including some important bricks such as MIS Builder or DDMRP.

Since the OCA is not only about source code management, Camptocamp also decided to be involved in the management of the community. Most employees of the Business Solutions department are members of the association, 10 of them were elected as Delegates of the association, and several have participated in the board of the association over the years. Being part of the board means spending time for the day-to-day administration of the association, participating in the organisation and animation of the yearly conference and code sprint, and more generally investing energy and enthusiasm in driving the community forward on the path of Open Source and excellence.

Being part of the board of the OCA also raises our awareness that the association needs funding to be sustainable, at a level where just the paid individual memberships won’t suffice, hence the decision of the management of Camptocamp to become a Silver sponsor. Of course the whole Business Solutions team will stay invested in the maintenance and improvement of the rich module stack of the Odoo Community Association.
