At Intergeo, Emmanuel discovered some nice applications based on MapFish and Studio.
The first one is a normal MapFish implementation and the second one uses Studio to generate a MapFish application. This gives the freedom to provide configuration function through Studio.

OGRS 2009
Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 by Cédric MoulletCamptocamp participates currently to OGRS 2009, the International Opensource Geospatial research Symposium in Nantes. Today was dedicated to research presentations and I was happy to observe that GeoExt is very well known and was mentionned in several presentations. I followed the topics “Cartography and standards” and “Geospatial Web”.
My highlights are:
- The automated label placement algorithms developed by the University of Applied Science from Switzerland. I have some doubts about the pertinence of a WPS service for this kind of application. Nevertheless, the algorithm is impressive and it would be fantastic to see it implemented in standard cartographic servers.
- Another refreshing presentation was made by two surveyor students who developed a web mapping applications dedicated to the Paris prime meridian.
I will present tomorrow a lab named “State of the art of the creation of GIS rich internet application”. You can already follow this lab here. Olivier Courtin will present a showcase: “TinyOWS an High Performance WFS-T server”
WMS for OpenStreet Map
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 by Cédric MoulletClaude Philipona just writes a blog to mention that some WMS are now available for OpenStreetMap in Switzerland.
If you want to see the content of these WMS, have a look at this Studio generated application: http://ec2-79-125-52-245.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:5017/mapfish.html
By the way, another MapFish application using the WMS provided by whereGroup and the geonames data for the city search: http://ec2-79-125-52-245.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:5036/mapfish.html
Studio: Create your own web 2.0 mapping application
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 by Cédric MoulletStudio has been extended to provide a full configuration solution for the creation of web 2.0 mapping applications (see previous post ). With it, you can publish your geodata over the internet without development skills and without the edition of any file !! And you can provide advanced functionality like editing, printing, tooltip or search.
If you want to know more about studio, you can:
- Watch this video:
- Test Studio: http://ec2-79-125-52-245.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:5000 . You can register and start playing with Studio. Be warned: this is not a production environment. We keep the right to delete all contents on this demonstration site.
- Read the Studio doc , particularly the "Work with Studio " section

Studio: Beta for the MapFile Manager
Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 by Cédric MoulletA previous post introduced a new administration tool: Studio is born !
One component of Studio is the MapFile editor. You can have a look at a video introducing the MapFile editor.. It is also possible to test it live (create your own account with register function).
We are currently working on extending the capabilities of Studio and the goal is to offer three main components:
- A tool to manage the data sources
- A tool to manage and edit MapFiles
- A tool to generate MapFish sites, with view, edit, search and query capabilities.
Studio will allow the administration of the MapFish functionalities:
But, it is also possible to use Studio as a standalone tool, in order, for example, to edit MapFiles.
Be warned: in order to fix Studio Beta, it is possible that the Studio demo site will be redeployed. In this case, your account / mapfiles will be deleted.
New tool for web mapping site administration
Saturday, February 7th, 2009 by Cédric MoulletDo you want to create your own web mapping application ? Do you want to share your geospatial data with others ? Do you want to define your own symbology ? If the answer is yes, then you are probably interested in the administration suite that we are currently developing.
This administration suite is a web 2.0 application and has 3 main goals:
- Allow the administration of data sources like WFS, WMS, GIS database or files, with function like "upload shapefile"
- Allow the definition of symbology for your data with an online MapFile editor.
- Allow the creation of MapFish applications. With this part, it will be possible to configure widgets (map panel, layer tree panel, overview panel for example) inside a web page.
Some of these developments will be part of GeoExt and we will also use nice GeoExt widgets like the styler proposed by OpenGeo.
So if you are interested in the source code, you can have a look here and you are welcome to contribute ![]()
I will post soon more information !
