FOSS4G North America 2012

A team of Camptocamp’s  Geospatial Business Solutions division will attend the FOSS4G North America conference which be held from April 10 to 12, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC, USA.

Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conferences showcase powerful tools for building mapping systems and analyzing geospatial data.

In the heart of Washington DC, this year’s North American event brings together developers, users, and executives who are building, deploying, and evaluating open source for innovative applications across government and industry.

OpenWebGlobe: True 3D virtual globe in your browser. Plugin-free.

Camptocamp, in collaboration with the School for Architecture, Engineering and Geomatics at the University of Northwestern Switzerland, have launched OpenWebGlobe: http://swiss3d.openwebglobe.org/.

This is a true 3D open source virtual globe using the latest web technologies: WebGL and Google’s Closure compiler. No plugins are required for modern browsers, and Internet Explorer users need only install the Chrome Frame plugin.

Zoom into Switzerland and you’ll find detailed orthophotos of Switzerland from Swisstopo’s SWISSIMAGE data set draped over Swisstopo’s rich DHM25 terrain data set. OpenWebGlobe uses a Triangular Irregular Network model that offers both accurate representation and is low bandwidth.

Fine grained aerial imagery and TIN elevation for high quality rendering

Under the hood, the Javascript client uses a streaming chunked level of detail algorithm to request only the data that is required for the current view. Detailed models of close objects are loaded, whereas only simplified models of distance objects are requested. This minimises the data streamed to the client while still allowing the user to explore the data in full detail.

Demonstration textured buildings were converted from the industry-standard Collada format and optimised for the web.

Behind the scenes, the application is hosted entirely in the cloud. 60 million image and elevation data tiles are hosted in on Amazon S3, and the application itself is served from load-balanced, redundant EC2 instances, all managed by Camptocamp.

FOSSGIS 2012: March 20-22

Towards Geonetwork 2.8

During the week of January 16-20, the core Geonetwork developers (including Camptocamp) met in Bennekom (Holland) for an intense week of software development.  The goal was to stabilize Geonetwork trunk for the approaching Geonetwork 2.8 release.  The goal was admirably achieved.  The core of Geonetwork is stable and ready for the release of 2.8.  The last order of business is to complete the new user interface for Geonetwork.

During the development of Geonetwork 2.8, a new user interface has been developed with modern web technologies and design.  The underlying implementation has been completed and final layout and UI polishing is being completed.  In the following few weeks the Geonetwork 2.8 Release Candidate 1 will be released.

The features of 2.8 include:

  • A new default UI
  • Improved performance and scalability
  • Metadata versioning
  • Subtemplates (for sharing common portions of metadata records)
  • Improved search support for multilingual metadata
  • New configuration management options for easier deployment to multiple servers
  • Geoserver publishing integration
  • Pessimistic locking for metadata to reduce the chance of losing work due to concurrent editing of multiple users
  • Metadata editor suggestions.
  • Pluggable metadata profiles
  • Logo manager
  • Search statistics
  • Metadata Notification (allows service to register for notification when metadata change)
  • New harvesters
  • PDF output of metadata
  • Improved database connection pooling
  • Virtual CSW endpoints
  • Document and field boosting to better control the relevance of searches
  • Metadata lifecycle

Implications de Camptocamp dans les communautés Open Source : bilan de l’année 2011

Camptocamp se félicite des nombreuses implications et travaux des membres de sa division «Geospatial Solutions» dans les communautés Open Source que nous soutenons.

L’année 2011 a été marquée par une forte activité dans les logiciels libres du domaine géospatial.

Quelques moments forts :

  • Ajout du support mobile dans OpenLayers
  • Publication des premiers globes virtuels WebGL tels qu’OpenWebGlobe
  • Fondation du projet geOrchestra
  • Refonte de l’interface d’édition des métadonnées dans GeoNetwork
  • Forte poussée du SIG Desktop QGIS

Durant l’année 2011, 6 nouveaux droits de commit ont été attribués à des développeurs de Camptocamp suite à leur forte implication dans les communautés.

Ces communautés sont les suivantes :

Camptocamp consolide ainsi sa position de leader et affirme sa volonté de toujours plus s’impliquer dans les communautés de développement de projets Open Source.

Également présente en 2011 dans toutes les conférences majeures en lien avec le géospatial, Camptocamp démontre la motivation de ses équipes à faire partager ses développements, ses thématiques novatrices et ses solutions pérennes au niveau international.

SIG la lettre : Villacité au service du commerce local

” Développé pour la chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris Hauts-de-Seine, Villacité est un service proposé en mode « cloud » pour répertorier et analyser l’offre commerciale locale. L’application purement Web a été réalisée par Camptocamp et permet de découvrir les commerces, caractérisés par 65 attributs. Des requêtes et représentations cartographiques sont également disponibles pour effectuer toutes sortes d’analyses. Villacité a déjà été retenu par Courbevoie et Boulogne-Billancourt. La CCIP vend également l’application à d’autres chambres de commerces, qui peuvent ainsi la mettre à disposition de leurs collectivités. L’abonnement coûte 4 000 euros par an, mais ne comprend pas la création de la base des commerces, qui peut nécessiter une enquête sur le terrain pour recueillir toutes les informations. En région parisienne, un recensement simple est proposé au tarif de 7 euros par commerce, un recensement complet (65 critères par commerce) coûtera 15 euros. www.villacite.fr “

Villacité : Solution de Web Mapping en faveur du commerce local

La solution logicielle VILLACITE (villacite.fr) permet aux professionnels du commerce de répondre en temps réel à la demande d’un commerçant ou d’un investisseur à la recherche d’un local commercial, de comprendre les spécificités et les enjeux en matière d’équipement commercial et de promouvoir les pôles commerciaux stratégiques, garantissant ainsi une meilleure attractivité de la ville.

VILLACITE se compose de deux applications. La première est une interface internet sécurisée destinée aux professionnels du commerce local (CCI, collectivités…). La seconde est un annuaire cartographique des commerçants qui peut être intégré sur le site Web de l’utilisateur ; il permettra à l’ensemble des usagers de la ville d’identifier la présence, la localisation et l’activité d’un commerce.

Développée par la division Geospatial Solutions de Camptocamp et à l’aide du framework de développement MapFish, VILLACITE illustre les capacités de la solution à proposer à nos clients des services Web cartographiques performants, assurant leurs besoins de consultation, d’interrogation et de modification de données spatiales au sein d’interfaces ergonomiques et personnalisées.

MapFish at Intergeo 2011

This year, INTERGEO, the world’s largest event and communication platform for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, will take place from September 27 to 29 in Nuremberg, Germany.

The trade fair and conference cover all the key trends that crop up along the entire value-added chain – from geo-based information surveys and data processing to integrated applications.
