WebKit Report : system revolution for OpenERP

Dear community and partners,

At the last Community & Partners meeting, Camptocamp participated to several workshops on various topics. One of them was on the reporting system of OpenERP; following this workshop, some conclusions have been drawn on which direction to follow. Mainly, we though that we needed a more powerful engine than RML (for better performance) as well as something more easy to use (to reduce costs).

Today, we do have such a solution, including all the requirements discussed together back in March !!

Camptocamp Business Solutions’ team is proud to announce the release of OpenERP WebKit Report as a module for the V5.0 of OpenERP. You can find it in the extra-addons branch as the module called "c2c_webkit_report". This newly released module includes the following main features:

  • OpenERP Compliant (translation, formatLang, pdf/html output)
  • HTML & CSS-3 Reports definition
  • Multi-plateform (Windows, Linux, OS X)
  • Multi-header support with full image support (per report and/or per company)
  • Multi-company compliant
  • Full JavaScript support
  • Easy paper-size, margin and format selection
  • And more : Raw HTML debugger, futur full integrated WYSIWYG editor, …

I want to thank all the participants for their contributions and the constructive work that has been done for drafting the specifications, particularly Nicolas Bessi who created this amazing module!

We are going to work hand-in-hand with OpenERP SA to integrate this new report engine into the core of the future version 6.0 of OpenERP. We hope, you will enjoy it!

GeoBI initiative : Camptocamp participates in the new international Open Source initiative on Location Intelligence

Press Release, Lausanne – June 10th, 2010 – Camptocamp announces its participation in the GeoBI initiative, a new international initiative focused on Location Intelligence, available at www.geobi.org .

The term Location Intelligence refers to all those processes, technologies, applications and practices capable to combine spatial data (Geographical Information System) with business data (Business Intelligence), in order to gain critical insights, to better support decision-making processes and to optimize business activities. In other words, Location Intelligence allows to connect various types of information to cartographic data, to locate them and to consequently increase the value of the existing information systems.

The initiative aims to aggregate companies, organizations, project communities and individuals into an open community aiming to foster the cooperation in the Location Intelligence domain and to support research activities. This allows to convert the results into innovative enterprise applications as well as to enrich and integrate the existing Open Source GIS and BI solutions, through the adoption of open standards.

Membership is open to anyone who shares the initiative vision and organization. Besides Camptocamp, charter member , the initiative members include the Italian companies Engineering Group and Inova Open Solutions, the French company Altic, the Canadian company Spatialytics and the SESAR research lab, Information Technology Department, University of Milan.

The initiative promotes the creation of a network of support services, according to which the initiative members provide professional support to the developed solutions .

Together with Altic and other partners, Camptocamp is already involved in GEO+ , a Web 2.0 research project. GEO+’s goal is to develop an open source platform allowing for content management, indexation and data analysis combined with spatial data. The project will focus in particular on the connection between Mapfish and open source Business Intelligence solutions.

Puppetcamp Europe 2010 (feed-back)

This first Puppetcamp in Europe was very interesting and well organized. The combination of formal presentations in the morning and open sessions in the afternoon was really a good idea.

This event started by the talk of Luke Kanies , CEO of Puppet Labs (the company behind Puppet); the original author of Puppet particularly highlighted the stability of Puppet and announced the imminent release of "Rowlf " which will be directly stamped version 2.6! This version will also offer new features such as class parameters, the complete migration to REST and many other great improvements.

Puppet Labs has also officially launched the Puppet Forge which is a Central Repository for Puppet Modules open to the community. Creating "good modules" was one of the topics discussed during an open session and was also covered by the presentation of Alessandro Franceschi . This talk also identified the collections of modules available, including the ones provided by Camptocamp on Github and also the ones already posted on the Puppet Forge.

We also appreciated the aspects related to Change Management presented By Jeff McCune and also the open session on Test Driven Deployment combining mcollective and cucumber .

A big thanks to all Puppetlovers for these two exciting days!
