The MapFish community is proud to announce the release of MapFish 2.0.

The highlights of the release are:

* MapFish 2.0 comes with GeoAlchemy and uses GeoAlchemy internally. Among other things, this brings MapFish support for PostGIS as well as Spatialite, MySQL, and Oracle Spatial.
* MapFish 2.0 is based on Pylons 1.0, the first stable version of Pylons.
* the API of MapFish 2.0 is incompatible with that of MapFish 1.2 (please go here to learn how to migrate your applications).
* the client plugin installs OpenLayers 2.9.1, and GeoExt 0.7 in the application and does not longer install MapFish Client.

The full list of enhancements and bug fixes can be found in the Release Notes.

To install MapFish 2.0 follow this link. And to get a sense about how MapFish can help you, check out our quickstart.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the release, and especially to Tobias Sauerwein, an intern at Camptocamp, who worked on GeoAlchemy and its integration in MapFish!

We’re looking forward to your feeback.

** English Version **

EDUGEO mini-SIG : A Simplified GIS Desktop Application with QGIS for Educational Purposes

Camptocamp has been mandated by the IGN and the French Ministry of National Education to develop a GIS desktop application – the “EDUGEO mini-SIG” – based on Open Source geographic information system, QGIS. The EDUGEO mini-SIG, which is part of the EDUGEO IGN project (www.edugeo.fr), will be used in French high school educational programs. Students will be provided with a GIS introduction based on the use of this simplified desktop application.

Some functionalities were directly implemented in the QGIS trunk. For example, in order to access data on the IGN Geo-portal (http://www.geoportail.fr/), the QGIS trunk has been enhanced with a WMS-C client. Also present in last released version of QGIS 1.5 « Tethys » are :

Print Composer : support for layer groups in the print composer legend

Print Composer : default composer templates

Vector export: support OGR vector formats (e.g. KML)

Query builder: loading and saving of queries

For specific demands, the use of plugin demonstrated the high flexibility of the QGIS API. QGIS interface was deeply simplified and modified to provide an application designed for beginner users. Another example of enhancement with a plugin is GeoDRM support needed for accessing geoportail data.

The project success highly depended on efficient collaborative work between QGIS community and Camptocamp. Teachers will be able to download the application for the new school year 2010-2011 (starting in september) on edugeo.fr.

There will be a poster presentation at FOSS4G 2010 in Barcelona.

Camptocamp would like to thank the IGN for its trust.

This year, several important announcements were made at the OpenStreetMap community conference. AOL Local, through MapQuest, is going to invest USD 1 million in OSM in order to improve road map coverage in the US, while Bing is offering the application to display the OSM map. These announcements demonstrate the credibility of the OpenStreetMap project towards major international players of the Internet industry.

In the community, "lightning talks" and informal discussions with participants confirm a rich intellectual effervescence.

Thanks to the availability of Open Source data, numerous innovative projects emerged such as WheelMap or OpenTrailView .

From a very interesting study from UCL presented by Muki Haklay, we learn that more than half of the OSM contributors have a former experience in GIS and that more than two-third contribute to software or Open Source projects (Wikipedia).

Finally, the community is extremely aware of possible obstacles (tag management, data quality, …) and these subjects undergo active thinking.

On the technical level, the variety of initiatives was noticeable (minutely diffs, cloud computing, software optimizations …), resulting from the existence of difficulties when trying to develop services around OSM data and infrastructure. The difficulties are mostly related to the increasing data volume, which requires a growing expertise level.

The nonconformist organization of the conference with an auction sale , a song contest , and a tune of "Highway to Hell "is the evidence that OpenStreetMap really is a fun projet!

Hi,

Just a little post on our c2c_webkit_report in order to explain how to deal with header and footer in this new report system. Have a look at our new video here:

files.me.com/nbessi/037luj.mov

We want to thank you all for your numerous feed-backs, contributions and comments on this module. It seems that it already has a great success ! OpenERP also gave me its agreement to include it as a standard module for v6.0 : what a great news!

Regards,
