Sort and filter options for function fields in OpenERP

Dear community,

We are happy to announce the availability of sort and filter options for function fields in our branch, which enhances

the user experience greatly :

Neither sort nor filter of function fields have created prohibitive performance issues so far in our tests. Our idea is to

provide the basic functionality for all function fields out of the box and fix performance bottlenecks for specific function

fields if necessary.

Please note that you have to add the following lines in the server config file.

According to the policy of OpenERP SA this enhanced functionality will not be available in the official OpenERP 6.0

distributions as the lack of sorting and filtering of function fields is not considered as bug and hence will not be fixed.

We plan to provide a similar solution for 6.1 and hope that a merge proposal will be accepted for 6.2

OpenLayers Client Zoom Feature

Camptocamp has been working on OpenLayers for several years. We’ve played a role in the development of many major features: “vector rendering”, “vector behavior”, “mobile support”, “kinetic dragging” to name a few. We’ve recently worked a new feature: “client zoom”.

When opening this map you quickly notice the “big squares” for the topographic layer (the “Color map” layer). Actually that layer cannot be better rendered at this resolution, because the display resolution is smaller than the resolution of the original data. The tiles making up this layer at this resolution were indeed generated by upsampling the original image.

The upsampling operation could actually be (equally?) performed by the browser, with two major benefits: save disk space on the tile server, and speed up tile generation.

But until today OpenLayers didn’t allow displaying a tiled layer at resolutions that weren’t supported by that layer’s tiling service. If the map was changed to a resolution that the tiling service didn’t support then non-existing tiles were requested, and “broken images” were displayed on the map.

On a contract with Swisstopo Camptocamp has been working on changing the situation, to make it possible to display tiled layers at resolutions that aren’t supported by the tiling services. The logic is simple: when the map is changed to a resolution that isn’t supported by a layer’s tiling service, OpenLayers requests tiles at a lower resolution for that layer, and scale the layer div using lower_resolution/map_resolution as the scaling factor.

Getting the patch right has been a bit of a challenge, but patch has finally been merged in OpenLayers’ development branch! An example of this feature is available online. Check it out!

Lancement de l’association OpenStreetMap France

Le 08 octobre 2011 est née l’association OpenStreetMap France !

Les objectifs de l’association sont de :

promouvoir le projet OpenStreetMap à travers, notamment, la collecte, la diffusion et l’utilisation de données cartographiques sous des licences libres,
faciliter et approfondir les contacts et les collaborations avec les entités publiques et privées déjà amorcés dans toutes les régions,
informer et former le public général, les participants au projet et tous les professionnels ou non-professionnels intéressés par l’intégration d’une cartographie libre dans leurs réalisations,
devenir le relais officiel de la Fondation OpenStreetMap qui administre la base de données mondiale.

Note : La participation au projet OpenStreetMap ne nécessite pas d’adhérer à OpenStreetMap France. Toutefois, nous invitons tous les contributeurs intéressés à rejoindre l’association.

QGIS : journées utilisateurs et développeurs (Paris et Zurich)

QGIS est l’un des logiciels SIG desktop Open Source les plus dynamiques. Ces dernières années, le nombre de committers s’est stabilisé autour d’une vingtaine de personnes à travers le monde ; ses caractéristiques fortement communautaires en font l’un des plus actifs, novateurs et pérennes.

Camptocamp a déjà réalisé des projets de développement ou de formation autour de QGIS, comme le projet Edugeo de l’IGN qui se base sur QGIS pour réaliser une interface graphique SIG pour une utilisation dans un cadre universitaire.

Deux événements organisés en cette fin d’année viennent démontrer ce dynamisme :

- le premier évènement qui aura lieu le 26 octobre prochain à Paris, est organisé par la représentation Francophone de l’OSGeo (OSGeo-fr) et a pour objectif de réunir des utilisateurs et des développeurs du projet afin de partager leur expérience. Camptocamp, sponsor de cette journée, présentera à cette occasion son travail sur le projet “mini sig Edugéo”. Vous pourrez retrouver toutes les informations relatives à l’inscription et au déroulement de cette journée sur le site de l’OSGeo-fr .

- le deuxième événement aura lieu en à Zurich, Suisse, du 11 au 14 novembre. Il a pour objectif de réunir les développeurs du projet pour déterminer les grands axes de développements et éventuellement débuter -ou avancer- certains développements. Camptocamp sera présent sur les 3 jours afin de participer à l’avancement du projet.

Nous vous attendons nombreux lors de ces journées où nous pourrons aborder, ensemble, comment vous accompagner dans la réalisation de vos projet avec QGIS !

QGIS: User and Developer Meetings (Paris and Zurich)

QGIS is one of the most dynamic GIS software. Over the past years, the number of committers has been steady (about 20 worldwide); its strong community characteristics make it one of the most attractive, innovative and sustainable software.

Camptocamp has already completed developments, projects and/or training on QGIS, such as Edugeo for the IGN which is based on QGIS for the completion of a GIS graphical interface for educational purposes.

Two events are organized to demonstrate this dynamism:

- on October 26 in Paris: organized by the Francophone local chapter of OSGeo (OSGeo-fr) and aiming to gather the projects’ users and developers in order to share their experience. Camptocamp, sponsor of this event, will present its work on a project entitled “mini sig Edugeo”. You can get the program and all information on registration on the following website: OSGeo-fr

- from November 11 to 14, in Zurich, Switzerland: the goal of this event is to gather the project’s developers to determine the development strategies and to start -or advance- on developments. Camptocamp will be present for the 3 days in order to participate to the advancement of the project.

Distinctions 2011 de l’EUROGI/eSDI-Net

EUROGI, l’organisation chargée de chapeauter l’information géographique en Europe, a primé deux applications d’Infrastructure de Données Spatiales développées par Camptocamp !

L’application GeoBretagne a gagné le prix dans la la catégorie “Trajectories” et le geoportail de la Confédération Suisse dans la catégorie “Technology”.

Camptocamp est très fière d’avoir participé activement au développement de ces deux applications, confirmant le haut niveau technologique déployé par ses équipes et les choix technologiques open source qui ont été faits. Camptocamp félicite Geobretagne et Swisstopo qui ont su faire vivre leur infrastructure depuis leur mise en place, gage de réussite pour de telles infrastructures.

EUROGI/eSDI-Net Awards 2011

EUROGI, the network for the promotion of cross border dialogue and exchange of best practices on Spatial Data Infrastructure in Europe, awarded two SDI applications developed by Camptocamp!

The application GeoBretagne won the price in the category “Trajectories” and the the geoportal of the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland) in the category “Technology”.

Camptocamp is very proud to have actively participated to the development of these two applications, confirming the high technological level of its teams and the Open Source technologies used.

About GeoBretagne (France)
GeoBretagne is an IDS implemented by the state and by the Bretagne region. It is based on the Open Source project geOrchestra.

About Geo-admin.ch, the geoportal of the Swiss Confederation
The federal geodata portal is a publicly accessible platform for geographical information, data and services. Geographical information consists of geographically and spatially referenced data. It describes the characteristics of a country or region in the form of coordinates and place names. The Open Source technologies used are MapFish, GeoExt and OpenLayers.
