Camptocamp OpenERP4.2 modules set

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 by Luc Maurer
After more than 2 years of experience working on OpenERP, Camptocamp release a set of modules to improve the stability of version 4.2 . As lots of projects have been undertaken for services companies, most of the improvements have to do with these companies. Besides, lots of financial corrections have also been completed.
All these modules are available in the extra addons branch on launchpad for version 4.2. Here is the bazaar link:

These modules are:

c2c_base_accou nt:
  • Adds check on important fields, such as: account code must be unique per company account, can not enter null value in the invoice factor if a project defines one, etc…
  • Improves some views, such as: move line entry, supplier invoices, etc…
  • Adds useful menus, such as: All supplier invoices, All payment order, etc…
  • Improves a number of wizards, such as: payment order and chart of account

c2c_analytic :

  • Adds "required = True" on important field in the environment of a services company which will use OpenERP to manage its projects.
  • Avoids duplication problems of analytic accounts

c2c_crm_reporting:

  • Prints CRM cases listings, sorts by type, date, subject, etc…

c2c_expense :

  • Improves the expenses form view by adding the "Expense" field of the product category
  • Adds useful menus: My paid expenses, My refused expenses, etc..
  • Improves workflow by adding a "Set to draft" node

c2c_hr_timesheet_sheet:

  • Adds tests and constraints : avoids overlaps, avoids wrong interval according to company’s settings, etc…

c2c_account_payment:

  • Adds a report allowing to print payment orders

c2c_analytic_wizard :

  • Adds a set of advanced wizards to manage invoicing based on analytic lines (mostly used by services company): Associate/dissociate analytic lines to an invoice, Create blank invoice, Get all analytic lines recursively from an account
  • Indicator report: allows to print an analytic account with all related invoices and indicators, including down payments

c2c_analytic_chart:

  • Allows to print an analytic chart of accounts

c2c_correct_invoice:

  • Improves greatly the refund invoice wizard, allowing to modify, cancel or recreate a wrong open invoice even if its status is "paid" or "reconciled"

c2c_translation_synchro:

  • Synchronizes translations with new terms, sets a default translation which allows modifications from the "All terms" menu
  • Safe mode available, existing translations will not be overridden if active

c2c_stock_obsolete:

  • Adds a special view and report on products, allowing the management of stocks depreciation, based on the last 12/24 months’ input/output.

We hope you will greatly benefit from those contributions. Camptocamp can provide support on the use and/or implementation of these modules. If needed, please contact us by email.

MapFish and GeoBI

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 by Cédric Moullet

The italian company Inova is currently developping a GeoBI plattform. You can see here the GeoReport module:

. Discussions around other modules like GeOLAP and GeoETL are going on.
MapFish offers several components to analyse the data like the “chloroplet”h and “proportional symbols” widgets (source code).
I strongly believe that the GeoBI applications have a great future and let the user to gain great information from the web mapping applications. By camptocamp, we are brainstorming integration of 3D views with BI components. In this area, Bjorn Sandvik presented great things. Stay tuned !

Specification phase

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 by Cédric Moullet

If you have a look at the GeoExt mailing list, you can see that it is very active. And the call for participations has currently 38 names, so I’m very confident for the future of GeoExt. I have to mention that there is some debates around the GPLv3 license, but with the statements of the EXTJs CEO Abraham Elias, I think that the situation is clear.

Let’s come back to the features. I’d like to introduce some of them:
- Map widget: this will be probably the first widget.
- Legend widget: you can see here one sample or here.
- Popup widget
- Scale widget
- Tree widget
- Grid widget
- And the styler widget: here or here

One big challenge, as mentionned by Rolando Penate, will be to keep UI/interaction consistency between these components.

I have probably missed some components, so don’t hesitate to give me other links.

MapFish Goes 3D!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009 by Cédric Moullet

MapFish’s got a new dimension. I just wrote a demo that shows how to use Google Earth Plugin with MapFish. MapFish on the left, GE on the right.

There’s a full real-time interaction between MapFish and GE. Translation and rotation of special MapFish tool moves GE camera. Panning and camera tilting on GE side moves MapFish tool.

And during your visit of San Francisco, don’t forget to have a look at the still-to-be-built New Bay Bridge (north-east of downtown SF).

Let’s fly!

Oh yes, and sorry but GE Plugin is not yet available for GNU/Linux.

2008 Summary between OpenERP & Camptocamp

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 by Luc Maurer

A new year is ahead of us, and I think it’s time to summarize what happened for Camptocamp in 2008.

First, have a look at our most popular modules and contributions in 2008:

c2c_budget : A module for advanced budget management: links with analytic and financial accounting, multiple budget and version, and much more…

c2c_planning_management : A module for planning resources in a service company: includes lots of graphical reports and adds activities on planned and completed work for stats…

c2c_reporting_tools : A new report library for OpenERP which allows you to create reports using directly the reportlab API. Most valuable benefits :

- Performance on large report (no rml parsing etc…)
- Simplicity for developpers to write new reports (no need to use RMl, so you really "code" your report)
- Easier to support than RML based
- Efficient for barre / gantt chart with a « tree architecture-like » Analytic Account
- Efficient for simple listing of things (invoice listing, CRM case listing, etc..)

c2c_finance_report : Corrects, redesigns and improves all financial reports, adding lots of new features such as new filter and search criteria, important columns sorting, etc…

l10n_ch : Improves and supports the Swiss localisation for OpenERP (adding electronic payment, BVR scan, account plan, etc..)

c2c_currency_rate_update : Allows to automatically update currency rates from a set of Web services like GoogleFinance, admin.ch, European Bank, and many more.

OpenERP 5.0 contributions : Camptocamp has completely reviewed and improved the security systems and configuration system of this version.

Our support to the OpenERP project and community:

Camptocamp investigated all distributed versioning tools so to choose the best one for our customers. We initially chose and used Bazaar internally, and then, we appreciated the big advantages Bazaar could provide in an Open Source environment. Consequently, we wanted to help OpenERP become more "Open" and make contributions easy.
So we promoted and recommended Bazaar and Launchpad to our Tiny team. Finally, we built the new community process together with a few other partners at the last Partner Meeting.

At that point, Tiny sprl thought our proposition interesting and made the changes. We hope that the whole community benefits from this(even if you’ve probably had to change your habits!).

Camptocamp also provide high level support to other companies in a multi-company environment, helping them to achieve their implementations. Since we use OpenERP internally, and strongly contribute to make OpenERP multi-company, we have developed a strong expertise on this matter.

Research & development:

  • Camptocamp made a proof of concept to generate HTML based reports using the Python template library Cheetah. Most important advantages:

- Professionnal graphical design
- Use of CSS for page layout and style
- Performance

  • We currently work on a Mac client for OpenERP 5.0, which will be released in beta at the end of January 2009.
  • In collaboration with the Swiss OpenERP Partners (Quod, Open-Net and Prolibre), Camptocamp has created the Swiss OpenERP Alliance (www.swiss-openerp.ch). Luc Maurer, director of Camptocamp, is the actual chairman of this Alliance. The purpose of this collaboration is to improve the Swiss compliance of OpenERP and share competences and developpements.
  • Camptocamp has won a reseach & developpment grant to develop an OpenERP implementation methodology for SMEs in collaboration with swiss universities. This will include the best practices and advices on the requirement and implementation part, but also the technical tools to handle a large amount of OpenERP instances. It will help partners to provide a better support to customers and, at the same time, to reduce their maintenance costs. Camptocamp want to help improve the quality of OpenERP implementations around the world, defining new standards and using a common methodology. Camptocamp decided to share this project with the Swiss OpenERP Alliance. The purpose is to create a real global and generic methodology usable for all OpenERP partners.

2009 will be the year of innovations and communication for Camptocamp. OpenERP 5.0 is coming and we now need to port our module to this brand new version. We will keep you informed about our work each month, writting on our blog.

Happy New Year !
